Amongst all those messages, I’ve realized that many were asking me if I could share any must-haves for the meditation room. To those who wrote me, thank you for inspiring this blog post, I hope it inspires you in return.

So here I am, sharing the 9 ultimate must-haves for your meditation room. Now, don’t go out and buy allll of those things. Nobody needs all the things. Just choose whichever resonate the most with you and start from there.

  • #1 - Meditation chair / cushion

A meditation chair or cushion is a staple in any meditation room. Posture is extremely important, your spine has to stay in proper alignment for longer periods of time and sitting on the floor just won’t provide you with the sufficient support for your back, knees and joints. Check out these amazing chairs/cushions :

  • #2 - Singing Bowls

Singing bowls are used in many different kinds of spiritual practices such as yoga, Reiki, chakra therapy and so on. In meditation, singing bowls are usually used to indicate the beginning and the end of the session. The sound they make really brings you to the present moment and brings you peace and calmness.

Singing bowls come in many forms and shapes, the most common ones are Tibetan singing bowls and Crystal bowls. You can check them out here :

  • #3 - Crystals

Crystals have amazing healing properties and can guide you on your meditation journey. Also they're so shiny and pretty, what's there not to love ? If you feel like adding some crystal magic into your meditation room, Energy Muse is THE place to get them ! I'm specially in love with their Agathe Wish Bowl. 😍😍😍

  • #4 - Mala Beads

Meditation can get a bit challenging and it’s sometimes hard to quiet the mind and come to center. In those situations, I like to use my mala. A Mala is a string of 108 beads and is used as a meditation tool to help you keep focus, count mantras, set intentions, etc. If you are looking to add a Mala to your meditation room, check these ones out :

  • #5 - Salt Lamp

Real Himalayan Salt Lamps come from the Khewra Salt Mine in Pakistan and are made by inserting a light bulb in a block of pink salt. They are said to purify the air in a room and improve your mood because they are natural ionizers. In addition to their health benefits, salt lamps provide a very warm glow that will give a perfect ambiance to any meditation room. Check them out here :

  • #6 - Essential Oils

Essential oils are compounds extracted from plants using oil, that capture their scent and essence. Each plant having its own healing properties, essential oils and aromatherapy are often used as a form of alternative medicine. For example Lavender essential oil is used for stress relief, Sandalwood is good to calm nerves and help with focus, Chamomile is used for improving mood and relaxation, and Jasmine helps with depression.

Adding essential oils to your meditation practice can be greatly beneficial to learning to calm down, focus, dive deeper, feel grounded and build compassion.

I encourage you to investigate for yourself which essential oil could be useful for you and your practice.

  • #8 - Palo santo / Sage

Yes ! Smudge all the things !

Is smudging already a part of your routine ? If not, I strongly encourage you to try it -  it will be a great addition to your meditation room. Smudging will help you when you feel stuck, negative, sluggish and even depressed due to some stagnant energy in your field.

By burning palo santo or sage or any other sacred plant, you will get rid of any negative energy and clear the energy in your field and room. Give it a try !

  • #9 - Journals

Keeping a journal in your meditation room is a great idea ! Journaling can help you keep track of your journey, give you a permanent record for posterity all while creating a safe space for your cathartic release from everyday stress and thoughts.

I have kept journals pretty much all my life. And while I have been a fervent defender of all things Moleskine for years, I must say that I am slowly changing to Leuchtturm1917, the paper is just so soft and they have alllll the colors !  Judge by yourself !
