Should you trust your intuition ?

» 5 Ted Talks to help you explore the power of intuition

When I was in 2nd grade, my teacher was an old lady, and she had this rule that at the end of each week, we had to make our parents sign our agendas to let them see what we had done at school (yeah, no internet back then). On the next Monday, whoever had their parent’s signature could participate in a contest. The contest would consist of our teacher choosing a number between 1 and 500 and the students that had signed their agenda tried to guess it. Whoever was the closest, won 1$. Now I was 7 at that time but I can remember so clearly how deeply I wanted to win that 1$ each week ! That was a fortune in the eyes of 7-years-old me. I could get so many things with that amount of money ! And most of all, the coin was so big and shiny. Oh, my my.

And so, you can bet that each week, I would religiously make sure my parents signed my agenda and entered the contest on Monday with excitement. But here’s where it gets interesting. At the beginning of the contest, the teacher would take a few seconds to choose a number and write it down on a piece of paper. During that time, I would close my eyes and ask myself ‘what number did the teacher choose?’ and then this little voice in my mind would tell me a number. At times, it was hard to understand the voice because it would say one number and then another and another. But, somehow, I knew that I had to go with the first one it said. When came my turn, I would simply say that number. And would I win ? Every. Damn. Time.

I won every time. No joke, ask my parents.

I felt like I had a superpower (and lots of dollars in my piggy bank) but in reality, all that I was doing was kicking butt at listening to my intuition.

I won that contest for 3 months straight before the teacher (and my classmates obviously) got annoyed with me. The teacher then decided to change the contest. There were no more 1$ involved and I lost interest, to the relief of my classmates.

The relationship with my intuition that I had as a kid is something that I have lost through time and found back again. Today, listening to my intuition is a big part of my decision-making process.

Although as a kid I thought I had a superpower, I now know that it wasn’t really so. Although it’s still pretty cool. Intuition is not something only a few gifted souls get. No, everybody has intuition, but not everybody listens to it.

If you are curious about intuition, if you wish to start building a relationship with it or simply want to see what all the fuss is about, then check out these 5 TED Talks about intuition. I bet they will knock your socks off and motivate you to listen more often to that little voice .. even when there’s no super shiny big 1$ coin at the end.
